The Apache Tapestry web framework has been making a name for itself in terms of innovative features and ease of use. In this session, we'll introduce the goals of the Tapestry framework: Simplicity, Consistency, Efficiency and Feedback. We'll discuss the challenges of building modern, Web 2.0 applications, and the two main approaches: action-oriented and component-oriented. We'll show the advantages of the component-oriented approach, especially as implemented in Tapestry. Tapestry includes many developer productivity features, including live class reloading and convention over configuration: we'll show how these require minute amounts of code to accomplish big goals, and how Tapestry brings scripting language productivity within reach of Java developers without sacrificing any of Java's inherent speed and power.
